# Protocols

A protocol is an organized workflow for proofreading in NeuTu. It usually consists of a list of tasks, and the user can go through the tasks one by one to finish an assignment without getting lost in the image data. The behavior of a protocol is defined by its type, which can be one of the following:

* Synapse prediction
* Orphan link
* [Connection validation](/neutu/protocols/connection-validation.md): for validating synapse connections
